Work Report - May 2009

Coming to a natural end

May 30th 2009 06:44
Both my blogs on Orble have suffered a good deal of late with my lack of time to do much in the way of blogging.
On one hand I've been rehearsing for the play, When We Are Married, and on the other I've been writing essays and such for the Research Methods paper I've been doing. No doubt I've mentioned both of these before, but a bit of repetition never goes amiss!
Anyway, both of these aforementioned items are coming to their natural conclusions: the last night of the play is tonight (the seventh performance) and the final essay has been written, and now only needs a last-minute check (tomorrow) and then will be sent off

Marked Improvement

May 16th 2009 02:33
Updating the state of the wife.

As I wrote in the last post, my wife got hit by a car while on her motor scooter last Tuesday evening. That evening she could barely walk into the house; the next morning it was a struggle for her to get out of bed and walk to the lounge By the time I got home that night from work (she'd been on her own for some of the day) she'd managed to get up and make herself a cup of tea, and was walking around with some more 'speed

Bit of a miracle

May 13th 2009 06:16
Well, we seem to veer from one weird event or health issue in our house to another at the moment.
Last night my wife went to her gym class (with one of the students doing physical education at the Varsity). She was finished by about seven and rode her motor scooter home.
Meanwhile I was at home having tea, and then, at about 7.15 got in the car to go to rehearsal. On the way I drove along Arthur St, past Cargill St, where there was an ambulance, and a police car, and a tow truck, and obviously an accident

Sins of the father by Fleur Beale
I'm really supposed to be getting started on my essay for the Varsity paper I'm doing; instead I've spent the last hour tidying up a review of the book, Sins of the Father, which I've just finished. It's due to appear in the Otago Daily Times in due course. (And will join a bunch of other reviews I've written over the last twenty years, maybe - some of which are on the ODT's website.)

Up until the beginning of this week I've been feeling really healthy again: walking comfortably, aquajogging occasionally and so on. But on Monday night I finished up a rehearsal for a drama we're doing at church on Sunday and felt an increasing pain in my back - around the kidney area. Went home and went to bed, and barely slept, because I couldn't get comfortable. As usual, I suspected all sorts of things: cancer of the kidney (?), the need for dialysis, and so on. All the usual worries. Of course, in the morning, I put them aside and got on with life again. Took some Voltaren in the end, and that seemed to settle things down. Also provided a urine sample to see if by any chance I had another UTI, and though the doctor generously provided me with yet more antibiotics as a result, the sample proved to have nothing particular buggy in it, when the results came back the next day
