Work Report - Mike Crowl focuses on jobs and work and anything connected to the two.
Mike blogs in two places on Orble, and two on Blogger. His wife thinks he writes too much.
Since we've been talking about health a good deal on here lately, I may as well continue. The subject today, children, is malignant Mesothelioma. I've written about it before, on one of my other blogs, but I usually have to remind myself what it is.
It's the cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, and it affects the mesothelium, the membranes that lubricate certain parts of the body. It's not something you want to get: it can affect all sorts of vital areas, and lead to an unpleasant end. The most common form of the disease is pleural mesothelioma, which affects the lungs (think pleurisy, for instance), and next in line is the peritoneal version, which affects the lining of the abdomen

About three weeks ago I did something unpleasant to my lower back - on the right, above the hip. I think it was when we were carrying in large sheets of gibboard: hoisting them off the trailer, and into the house. They ain't pleasant to carry; their sheer size and unpredictability makes them awkward to manoeuvre around corners. (Do you know manoeuvre is one of the few words I can never spell without thinking about it - very hard? That crazy combination of vowels after the 'n'. I know it's the same as oeuvre, but that doesn't help, since I don't seem to be able to spell that either. )
Anyway, I went to the doctor, (as I've probably mentioned in here) and he sent me to the osteopath. But I had a whopper of a cold on the day I had my appointment, so I didn't make it. Finally today I got back there

I had a pleasant surprise the other day when someone wrote to me to say that things I'd posted in this blog about my experiences with water retention had helped them to understand what they were going through. I was quite chuffed!
I get a few comments on this blog, but most of what I have to say doesn't arouse any great debates, or start flame-throwing sessions or the like. Our preference is to keep things fairly mild over in this corner of Orble

If someone said to you, write about the Orange New Jersey cosmetic dentist, where would you start? I mean, who wants to write about the work of a dentist? Most of us are glad enough not to be anywhere near dentists at the best of times. (Even worse, last time I visited mine, I asked him how his wife, who was suffering from cancer, was doing. He gently informed me she'd been dead 18 months at that stage, and he had since remarried!)
The most recent dentist episode I've had was when I picked up my daughter from her dentist's, because she wasn't allowed to drive home. This particular daughter had always loathed going to the dentist because she'd had some bad experiences with dental nurses as a child. (On her first visit, she absolutely positively refused to open her mouth to let the dental nurse have a look

Last Saturday we spent most of the day continuing on with our kitchen renovation. Last Monday, about nine pm, we did some more. Just enough to cheer my wife up: she was feeling as though it was never going to get done (!)
Last night (Friday) we tackled a corner that hadn't been finished, and dealt to it. Today we got the four ceiling pieces on, with the help of two of our friends (lots of cheers and hallelujahs at this point). In fact, if they hadn't been there, I suspect my wife and I would still be working on it, and the air could well be blue
