Staying the Course

September 30th 2009 08:33
Along with five other trainees, I began a course today to become a Supervisor. Not as in supervising people who are working under me, but as in supervising those who come to me for supervision.

Plainly I've learned a lot already

E-book

September 27th 2009 07:06
When I managed OC Books, the Christian bookshop, there were several occasions when I had reason to investigate e-books, either because people asked about how to get them, or because I was interested in the possibility of the shop doing something in the e-book line.

More recently I've been doing some further research on the topic, because my boss is interested in the possibility of publishing an e-book, and even more, because I'm

considering doing the same thing myself. (Whether the boss publishes his as a pure e-book, or as an online publication in real book format, we've yet to decide

Twits at the Opera

September 16th 2009 08:13
In what seemed to me to be a rather innovative approach to opera, which, in spite of all its glories, is now often accompanied by a snobbery and pomposity that has nothing to do with its origins, the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden) recently staged the first opera with a libretto inspired by, and selected from, some 900 tweets sent by various operatic-minded twitters.

At this stage I've got as far as getting all the posts collected, and checking the links and photos. It's a bigger task than I expected, of course, but step by step we'll get there.

It's interesting going back over this period and seeing what things I wrote. One of the surprises is that I wrote less than I thought I had. In my mind there was a lot more detail, but in fact in regards to some events and experiences there wasn't as much as I thought. I'll have to amend that in the e-book, by adding in some explanations and such

I Yike It

September 4th 2009 08:26
Who needs weight loss supplements? Pretty soon you'll be able to leave the car at home, park the bike in the garage amongst all the other junk, put your Yike Bike under your arm, and choose either to walk or bike as you please.

Grant Ryan and the Yike Bike
No more hauling a great lumpy ten-speed around (and possibly having the wheels pinched). The Yike Bike is like a mini-penny-farthing: not so tall, and certainly far more space saving. And it folds up.
