Work Report - January 2010

Employment

January 28th 2010 07:04
Started back at work this week: another year of employment, all things being equal. Officially I can retire this year - in May - and from that time I'll get a pension as well as a wage. Might put the pension away in the bank for the time being, until I really need it.

Can't say I was enthused about going back to work, but I've got into the swing of it again, and am surviving. Not sure what the problem with going back was, except that last year was pretty rough in terms of stress (more on the other staff than me) and ill-health, and I'd like to think that this year is going to be different. But who knows what's in store

On holiday

January 8th 2010 23:17
At present I'm on holiday - have been since the day before Christmas, and will be until I go back on the 25th of this month. At this time of the year in New Zealand, it's (supposed to be) summer, and so most of the country gets into holiday mood.

This year my wife and I aren't going away anywhere - we've already had a week off in the North Island last October (the main event was the wedding of a good friend), and so we're saving our money a little and staying at home doing things like working in the garden (very satisfying), writing music (equally satisfying), catching up on odd jobs (sort of satisfying), debating getting a new PC (a little nerve-wracking), entertaining an old friend who's on holiday from England, offering hospitality to a group of people from church for lunch: we were all supposed to be going to the beach or on a picnic, but it was raining, so we had an indoor picnic instead! And then, of course, the sun came out brilliantly, so a number of us went for a walk at St Clair beach

Borrowers and Lenders

January 1st 2010 04:21
I've started using Google Alert again, just for interest's sake, and discovered today that a post I put on the Mission Resource site (the one I do at my work) about leadership has been referenced on a site written by someone working for the World Council of Churches.

The site is called, Of life, laughter and liturgy (a title which gives plenty of scope) and is run by Jane Stranz (pictured at left), a British woman, and an ordained
