Changing the mind
March 28th 2007 08:53
I said I wasn’t going to talk about work anymore, but I’ve changed my mind – in part.
The last couple of days, which might have been a bit of a nightmare, have turned out to be more interesting than I expected. I was anticipating going back to work sans desk, sans computer (‘sans’ being to show that I know my Shakespeare – it was a pseud word in his day, too!)
But! The big boss had arranged both a desk and a computer for me – in a different office, but next door to where I was. Not only that but I’ve retained some of the work I’ve been doing, even though the ‘owner’ of those particular jobs has come back from her sick leave. She’s still under par, quite a bit, so they taken some of the pressure off her.
On top of that, I got stuck into the large room (it’s actually a men’s toilet and shower area) where stacks of old files and other unwanted junk has been dumped when there was some major shift around in the offices, about a year ago. So at least three or more hours in the last couple of days has involved me clambering over old desks, chairs, opening up all sorts of files and checking for their currency; discovering boxes with wine and other goodies intended as Christmas gifts, and never given; dealing with dead spiders and other sundries, and in general getting myself covered in dust.
All the stuff that’s getting thrown out (not everything is, as some of it has to be kept by law, for some years) I’m tipping onto a truck in large plastic bags – which have a habit of splitting just as you’re lifting them up and over…
I even got to drive the truck – all of fifty yards. But it was an experience!
