A spirometer
is an apparatus for measuring the volume of air inspired and expired by the lungs, so Wikipedia informs me.
I rather wonder whether the people who were involved in the Stuff Consequences series of promo videos might have been in need of a bit of testing for the level of air entering their lungs after some of the things they were 'forced'/asked to do.
You can check out the several videos on the Stuff.com site. The campaign centres around this statement: If our team don't break stories first there are consequences.
The various stunts were set up in full view of the public: in three cases viewed by thousands of people running in what must have been the Round the Bays race in Auckland.
One guy is stuck on a billboard having tomatoes thrown at him; a woman is tied to the top of a mast; another guy does a very bad piece of stand-up
comedy; another is tied to a post and is punched by a large plastic hand every time someone stands on a coloured strip on the ground - and so on.
The scariest one, perhaps, is the 'staff member' (a stunt man in this case) who is held upside down from a balcony several stories off the ground.
But perhaps what is even scarier is that no one seems to care about the people in each case (it's not always obvious at first that they're doing this for an ad campaign). Those who do notice the 'victim' get out their mobiles and send the picture to friends. So much for care and concern.
