Clutter !

This week at work I've been on my own in the office the whole time. It's been great: I've got rid of a whole pile of little jobs that had accumulated, and a good deal more on top. I had the time to concentrate on stuff that needed thinking about (especially when it came to thinking about figures and why they didn't balance). I enjoy working with the other two people, but it's also good just to have some time to focus without interruption!
One thing I haven't managed to do much with is the clutter. Ours is a great office for piles of cluttered paper. Usually we each have a fairly good idea what's on our desks, but it's not ideal. A lot of stuff could be filed away if we had time to do filing.
I've just been looking for an article I wrote a while ago about clutter, but I can't find it - think it's on one of those sites where the individual items don't get picked up by Google (Constant Content, I've just discovered). I've just checked Google Desktop and it brought up a post I did on this blog earlier this year, but that's not what I'm looking for. I should have a copy of the article on my computer, but so far - no, wait! it's just come up on Google Desktop. And there are half a dozen copies of the text version and half a dozen of the Word version. What? Obviously when my computer was sorted out a year or two ago, a number of these files managed to duplicate themselves. No wonder the computer is cluttered as well!
I've spent the last week offloading a whole pile of video files that my daughter put on the computer to try and work on - except the programme for editing them won't work, either on her computer or mine. I've saving them to a back-up drive (it has 500 gig so should handle the size of these files easily), but it's a very long job. They each copy at the speed of the video...yuk.
I found another reference to clutter on my Travel Blog. This post talks about when we were sorting out our house prior to go overseas for five months or so in 2007. We cleared out enormous amounts of clutter, it seemed, but obviously the clutter bred while we were away, and there was just as much when we came back. I dread to think what it would be like to shift house. A positive nightmare.
Something we didn't do while we were overseas was walk in Bath. I never managed to get to Bath the first time I was in England, back in the 60s and 70s either, so it's a place I see in Jane Austin type movies, but have never seen in reality. Of course there are lots of other places in England I've never seen either, but Bath appeals for some reason.
Continuing on the theme of clutter: another job I didn't get done this week was clearing my computer of clutter (I was reminded of it by what I said a couple of paragraphs ago). Everything gets backed up on my computer, even though it's not officially a server, and consequently I have umpteen copies of some files. Of course, I happen to work with two people who don't like to throw anything away, even if it's a copy of a copy of a copy.
Such is life, apparently, in a cluttered world!
This isn't my office, by the way. It's a picture from flickr.com I do have a picture of my office, but it's on my memory stick, and I can't get at the USB port at the moment, so it'll have to wait for another day!
