Recovery mode
March 3rd 2009 20:02
It's now nine days since my op, and I'm making progress. Gradually managing to get control back over going to the loo: until now I've mostly had to make a dash for the toilet because the bladder, having warned me it wanted to go, just couldn't wait. Partly the result of ten weeks of not having any control because of the catheter, but also par for the course after this kind of op, apparently.
And I hadn't been sleeping very well, because, not knowing whether you're suddenly going to get a call of nature in the wee small hours, you tend to be more restless. The first few nights I seemed to be up and down to the toilet like a yo yo. Last night was the best so far, with only one trip about 1.30 and another fairly early one about 5 or 6. And I think I probably could have put the second trip off for longer if I'd made up my mind (!)
Furthermore, last night we went to the movies, and I sat through the 100 minutes or so without qualm - even waited till I got home to go to the loo.
This probably all sounds very prosaic and uninteresting to you, but to me each of these steps are a milestone back to recovery, exit signs on the road from prostate problems to prostate normality!
I'm assuming - and definitely hoping - that everything will continue to improve: I'll walk easily, start running (as much as I was!), go aquajogging, climb stairs comfortably and so on. So this aspect of the WorkReport blog will no doubt soon come to an end. And talking of work, that's what I now need to get on with, as I'm working from home for the most part this week.
