Back to the Word Game
February 10th 2008 01:05
I’ve been negligent of my ongoing word game over the last fortnight. Hopefully those who’ve been keeping up with it will forgive me. (All two of them.)
Just to clarify: this is a post in which a word appears that's not entirely unusual, but perhaps not used in everyday speech. Sometimes the word is more obscure than not, sometimes it’s a fairly regular word – at least by my standards.
Your task, as the reader, is to be the first to tell me in a comment what you think today’s especial word is.
My task is to make is less conspicuous rather than have it stick out like a sore thumb.
Another point: though this blog is focused mostly on work I do also use it occasionally for word play. However, in this instance I’m going to point you to an article I’ve put on another site, Socyberty.com, where I’ve rehashed a column I wrote some fifteen years ago. It’s about the insufficience of certain words in our vocabulary, words you’d think we ought to have.
The title of the article is A Successful Listful? and it includes a whole menagerie of words you’ve never heard of but wish you had. (Or I wish I had, which may not be the same thing.)
If you read it, leave a comment, either on Socyberty, or here. It’s always nice to hear from you!
