Somewhat eventful week

The working life can feel like a bit of a treadmill if things just roll on from day to day, and each day seems pretty similar.
Well, I guess I can't complain about that; even though I do similar work on a regular basis, it's never the same, and that's a plus, and makes up for any downside the job might have (such as the bullying lack of understanding that comes from our 'head office' at times).
However, the work day has been well and truly punctuated by variety of late: firstly the bit of eyelid surgery I had about ten days ago, which left me looking as though I'd been given a black eye by some passing stranger. As a consequence of this I had a bit of trouble focusing with my right eye (the one whose eyelid was 'operated' on) and was beginning to wonder if there'd been some damage to it. However, the optician assures me that it's pretty much as it was - that is, it doesn't focus as well as the right eye anyway, and hasn't for some time. I'd obviously forgotten this in my mild state of panic about having to start listening to books for the blind and such (forgetting of course that I'd still probably have one good eye anyway!)
And then I had to go and get my driver's license renewed. As someone said later, I should perhaps have waited a bit longer (it isn't due till the 10th May) and let my eye get back to normal. But I went and struggled enormously with their eye test, which requires you to look into a machine and read letters off a 'chart.' Things wouldn't focus, and I positively could not see one of the three columns that was supposed to be there. Felt very uneasy, but a visit to the optician yesterday assured me that things were okay. I could read his charts as easily as ever and had no problem with the little peripheral light that he waved from around behind one ear, across in front, and around behind again. (No, I didn't see it when it was behind me....dear me!)
And then yesterday I had an appointment at Work and Income to apply for my superannuation - or pension as it's called in other countries. I turn 65 next month, and needed to get my application in before the birthday. The place wasn't exactly packed with old people, but I certainly noticed the ones who were there...!
