Sorting the Feet
March 10th 2007 01:43
I’m beginning to see some point in Imelda Marcos’ large collection of shoes. Since I came to this new job I’ve been having trouble with my toes getting so sweaty that by the end of the day they’re soaked. By late afternoon all I’m longing for is to get home and get my shoes and socks off.
I’ve tried Gran’s Remedy, which sort of worked in terms of drying them out, and, when I ran out of that, baby talcum powder. The latter turned out to work better than Gran’s, but still doesn’t do the whole job.
And then I went to my evening job last week – in my slippers. They’re not big fluffy ones so they weren’t obvious, but the advantage was I could slip them on and off easily and keep my feet cool.
Now I couldn’t very well wear them to my day job, but decided to try getting a pair of slip-on shoes as an alternative. I’ve never liked wearing slip-ons: for walking outside in they’re never seemed much good. But since I don’t walk to work at the moment, this isn’t quite such an issue.
So I went to The Warehouse and bought a couple of pair: one have elastic across the instep to keep them on, and the others have little zips on either side of the instep that you can loosen and tighten as the occasion demands. I’ve been wearing the latter for the last few days, and what a difference! There’s still some sweating going on, but nothing like before. And I can cool my feet off at the drop of a hat - if that isn’t some kind of mixed metaphor.
Plus the little zips are fun to play with…
