First taste of the new job
December 1st 2007 02:17
Well, I had my first taste of the new job - a mere sliver at this point.
We got back from England on Wednesday evening, and I woke up on Thursday feeling like a box of birds. This was a bit of a surprise, as we'd been absolutely zonked on the Wednesday after our two long flights and lack of rest.
Anyway, I was in town, so I thought I'd drop in and see the new 'boss' (she doesn't want to be called The Boss - bossy, maybe, but not the boss).
The office sometimes has three people in it, but rarely. The main boss is normally away, or works from home. His desk takes up a fair amount of space, all the same.
My desk is on the opposite side, and looks certainly usable. I'm close to the window, which is a plus, as the office is on the fifth floor, and we have a great view over the city.
The bossy boss works where she can - such as at the large round table in the office, where she spreads out her work, the better to get at it
Altogether, it looks an okay space.
I don't start officially until the 10th December, but I'm going in on Wednesday for a bit of a sort out of the contract. I now find that the job is a fixed contract one for six months. This was a bit disappointing, but apparently it's par for the course with our employers, who tend to work from period to period, especially with staff who aren't 'essential' - essential as in the sense of being non-affordable if the going gets rough. I'll just have to take that as it comes, as the others do. It's not quite how I envisaged things, but six months of interesting work is better than three years of dull stuff.
