Treadmills

Treadmills everywhere we go.
We started to get back into using our treadmill again the week before last, walking a minimum of ten minutes at a time. I was going well until I started to have my daily nosebleeds, and that put me off a bit. However, I was up and running the night before we came up to Auckland. Running, literally, up to a minute or more at a time, which, considering I don’t really run anywhere anymore is pretty good.
When I was a kid, I used to run everywhere. It was my normal mode of travel. They’d send me out to the shop and I’d be back in half the time they expected. And I was still running a good deal until I was into my late forties, at least, and maybe later.
I think what stopped me running is that my knees started to get sore, probably from pounding down the hills every morning to work.
However, I want to be able to run at least a short distance, rather than feel as though I’m inhibited by a lack of muscle, so I’m aiming to get the knees back into gear (though I avoid running down hills now), and running on the treadmill is a good way to start.
The first thing we noticed when we got to my daughter’s place here in Auckland is that she has a treadmill set up in her garage. Maybe tomorrow, if the weather picks up a bit, we’ll go out and doing a bit of walking and running, just to keep our hand in – er, foot in.
And a footnote: I did manage one twenty-minute spurt on the treadmill, running at least three times during the period. Couldn't get my wife to have a go, though (!)
