Another day off work!
This is the second really heavy cold I've had in a few weeks, and once again it's not just a case of the sniffles, but terrible hectic sneezing, hacking cough almost to the point of choking me, and general aches and pains that imply it might be the flu but probably isn't.
If I didn't have the job I have at the moment, I don't know how I would have got on over this last year, when I've had more time off for sickness than ever before. During the pre-prostate operation period I was often hit by urinary tract infections, which leave you feeling listless and unable to get up and go. And then there was the period of recovery from the op, and, in the last few months a lot of tiredness and general feeling of not being quite myself. The cold(s) just add to it all.
Well, praise the Lord for the bosses I've got who understand perfectly that it's better to get well than try and work when you're sick. I don't work for the sort of place where there are camcorders in the form of CCTV at every corner checking out to see if you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. In fact our workplace is virtually the opposite of that. It's built on trust, something not every boss can understand - and I should know. I've probably mentioned in here previously (in fact I'm sure I did when I was first writing this blog) that I worked for four months in a place where there was such a lack of trust that it was palpable.
I don't ever want to go back to that again.
