Weather Report

June 22nd 2008 08:44
I’ve just been outside because, for the second time in a week, someone has crashed into someone else. As always one of the two drivers failed to give way at the Give Way sign. They do it several times a year out there. I can remember coming home from church one Sunday a few years back and finding my mother cleaning up some young feller – blood over both of them – after his car had nearly gone down the bank across the road, when someone failed to stop.

Anyway, while I was outside with my daughter checking this out, I noticed how severely the temperature had dropped, that there was a nasty drizzle, and was reminded of the post I did recently about the weather sites.

Went back to AccuWeather, to see if they were still accurate. They’re telling us – on their own site – that it’s 8 degrees Celsius out there. In fact it’s bitingly cold and much closer to zero, I’d say. To give them some credit, they’re saying the ‘RealFeel’ is one degree. On that we can agree.

They’re also telling us (on the cumul.us site) that there will be rain, but on that site they’ve got the temperature at a rather more accurate 4 degrees.

The other three weather forecasters (there’s a new one listed: the Weatherbug) all have us at 6 degrees (on cumul.us) with rain.

On their own sites, respectively, WeatherUnderground has us at 10 degrees, the Weather Channel has us at nothing again – as I said in the last post, for some reason their current day reading doesn’t show up. Bit pointless, that.

The Weatherbug gives us a reading of 11 degrees, on its own site. This might be because the reading is taken at Christchurch Airport, which is some 400 kilometres north of us!

Oh, dear.

Anyway, if it keeps up as cold as this, we might have get some exterior shutters put up, and keep them closed at all times!
