Working on Holiday
April 30th 2007 05:20
My wife and I have been looking on the Net at what sort of temporary work we might do while we’re in England for six months. Obviously we don’t want to work the whole time, and we’ve got rellies to visit and friends to catch up on and places to see. But a few dollars in the hand would help the funds as we go along.
Last night she came across an ad for some group wanting an experienced rehearsal pianist. I could do this standing on my head, yet it hadn’t occurred to me as a possibility.
We were having a meal with friends last night and one of them suggested looking for work as an ‘extra’ in a film. I had thought of this, and it sounds just up my alley. I’ve done some acting over the years, and seeing the inside of a movie studio, something I’ve always been keen to do, would be great fun.
Our first idea was working together as carers, with the accommodation supplied by the person needing care. There’s a great demand for carers in people’s homes these days, but not so much, if any, for a couple. Still, that’s something we can suss out a bit more when we get there.
I could do some data entry for a couple of weeks (more than that I might not be able to stand, as it’s pretty much all I’m doing at present). And my wife has worked in the Health scene for over a decade, so that might be useful. Then there’s office work, for me, and catering for her. We could house-sit. (We’re doing that for two of our relatives on two different occasions as it is – though they won’t be paying us for the privilege, of course.)
The more you think about it, the more you realise the skills you already have.

Where's your Digg, I couldn't get mine to work. Silly me! or at least Dave thinks so.
It sounds like you'll be home and hosed for work, have a great time.
